    Description

This movie was made in 1936, long before Alfred Hitchcock became "Sir Alfred" and long before John Gielgud became "Sir John," courtesy of the Queen of England. Both of them, each in his own way, were magnificent entertainers-as you will see in this vintage film. And although Peter Lorre was never honored by the Queen, nor was Madeleine Carroll, both of them contribute their usual standout performances. Early on in this World War One story you will recognize the clever Hitchcockian twists. It begins with a British soldier (Edgar Brodie) returning from the war and discovering that he is dead... well, not really dead. It's just that the British government found it convenient to fake Edgar's death. What's more, they then ask Edgar to assume yet another name and hunt down a particularly nasty German agent in Switzerland. With that, the chase is on.
